JOB SUMMARY
This position supports the Project Management Team and the related financial reporting for all rigs with Rigs Projects, SPSs and any Contract Required Projects.
The Senior Rig Project Controller has an in depth understanding of the financial position of all the assigned Projects, and can identify and summarize the major financial drivers, risks and opportunities of the business.

The Senior Rig Project Controller supports Rig Project Controllers to resolve issues which present a potential financial impact are raised and resolved in a timely manner and in accordance with Seadrill policies and procedures

This position is expected to maintain a strong relationship with Project Manager, Project members, Operations, Shared Service Center and other support functions and be the key point of contact in the area for the key stakeholders.


JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Coordinating Rig Project Controller/controller's to prepare the monthly and YTD variance bridge in monthly Reporting Package for Projects Team and Executive Management.
  • Review management reports and Project reports (BTR or equivalent) to identify potential accruals and adjustments for goods and or services and feed this back to the Shared Service Centre.
  • Collate, input, and review of forecast and budget information submitted by Projects team, engineering/technical disciplines, operations and marketing to provide a summary of the Projects EAC. Act as Business Partners to the Project Management team to challenge, identify and resolve complex discrepancies and issues based on experience and precedent. Continuous process improvement and implementation of improvements in current and future projects.
  • The role includes but is not exclusive to preparation of the monthly accounts, the analysis of the activities, balance sheet preparation, budgeting and forecasting for the respective units. All activities will also be conducted in a SOX compliant manner in line with Seadrill’s control framework.
  • If required (Depending on project) gather supporting documentation from the rig Project team for the customer billing process and provide this to the Shared Service Centre AR team and raise the billing and coordinate with operation finance as needed.
  • Review of CIP account to ensure timely capitalization of projects. Provide commencement of depreciation period (inform SSC that asset is placed in service or is ready to use).
  • Prepare audit query responses with Projects Control Manager as required by clients, regulatory bodies and any other audits that might be required as per location requirements.
  • Focus on project spend to ensure BTR (Budget Tracking or equivalent Reports) are updated accurately, and any discrepancies are highlighted to project management and Finance Manager. Initiate constructive discussions/weekly meetings with Project Rig cost controller and Project Manager to identify any potential savings and correctly analyse and report increases.
  • Foster a culture of financial accountability, understanding and discipline amongst senior budget owners through experienced business partnering and challenging ways of working with senior stakeholders.
  • Co-ordinate the resolution of more complex outstanding local issues such as PIT/VAT reviews/issues/concerns.
  • Provide efficiency control by comparing committed and actual project costs.
  • Unifier / Orca system development and reporting functionality. Be Superuser in the system and help in training new joiners on how to use Unifier and Orca ERP systems.
  • Support and advocate for the professional development of Junior Rig projects controllers, assign tasks and manage workload for team members.
  • Reporting responsibilities as delegated from Finance Project Cost Controller Manager.
  • All activities to be conducted in a SOX compliant manner in line with Seadrill’s control framework.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential

  •  Ability to communicate effectively with technical disciplines, project managers, and senior management.
  • Ability to travel internationally and both onshore and offshore to project work sites.
  • Experience in Oil and Gas industry, preferably with time spent on projects and financial reporting.
  • Microsoft Office with Strong Excel skills.

Desired

  •  Finance / Accounting experience with the ability to apply financial and accounting practices and procedures (USGAAP).
  • Possesses an in depth understanding of the financial aspects of the drilling contract(s), Shipyard agreements and major vendors.
  • Highly numerate, strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with an inquisitive mind-set to find solutions.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills to manage senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to build relationships across different cultures and disciplines.
  • Ability to train and supervise junior team members.
  • Ability to proactively identify pain points and work with other functions to ensure CI of processes and procedures through root cause analysis and training to ensure long term fix.
  • Major ERP experience, preferably Oracle.
  • Ability to consolidate and summarize data from multiple sources.
  • Able to handle different Projects / Areas / operations.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements

  •  Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or equivalent.

Preferred

  •  4-5 years of hands-on experience in Oil and Gas industry, preferably with focus in offshore drilling, either directly or indirectly, e.g. audit experience in public practice firm.
  • Thorough understanding of the finance/accounting aspects of offshore business and how the various support roles interface (e.g., Supply Chain and Operations).
