The Welder reports to the OIM.


            Main Functions:

  1. Promoting safety awareness and safe work practice among all the personnel on board, and specifically for those crew under his direct charge.

  2. To carry out all hot work requirements as directed, and strictly in accordance with Permit-to-Work conditions and safety requirements.


    Safety Responsibilities:

  1. Leading safety by example for all employees to follow.

  2. Actively participate in company and operator safety programs and initiatives.

  3. Ensure compliance with the Permit to Work system.

  4. Conduct pre-job safety meetings in compliance with the company requirements (which includes use of the 4-Point check / Energy Wheel and JSA tools), ensuring all personnel involved in the task at hand have participated fully in discussions, have determined the safest method to complete the task and have a full understanding of the work to be performed (especially their individual role).  

  5. Report all hazards and positively intervene in all observed unsafe acts.

  6. Participate in emergency drills, including post-drill debriefs.

  7. Attend General Safety Meetings.

  8. Carry out all work activities within the guidelines of Company or Operator Policies or Procedures.


    General Responsibilities and Main Tasks:

    Includes, but is not limited to and not in order of priority:

  1. Liaising with the OIM or his delegate, to ensure the subject work area is inspected and declared safe for hot work, consistent with work permit and company procedural requirements.

  2. Performing welding, burning and grinding tasks appropriate to qualifications, skills and experience; and to tolerances determined by engineered drawings, legislative and insurance requirements.

  3. Barricading and sign posting any area that he may be making hazardous through removal of ladders, hatches or sections of handrail or deck.

  4. Ensuring his safety in hazardous locations with regard to guardrails, scaffolding, safety harness, gas detection etc.

  5. Ensuring assigned Fire-Watch personnel are trained and competent in their role

  6. Provide On-the-Job training, in cooperation with the Safety & Training Officer, for Fire-Watch personnel.

  7. Maintaining 6-G AND 6-GR welding certification.

  8. Ensuring all work is carried out within the parameters of the Permit-to-Work Program. 

  9. Maintaining all gas bottles, regulators, cutting torches and hoses in good condition and consistent with company procedural directives.

  10. Undertaking all drills and duties as determined by posted Station Bill.

  • Welding Trade certificate or suitable trade experience (>5yrs)

  • Gas & Electric Welding experience (>5yrs)

  • Welders 6G & 6GR certificates
