The Motorman reports to the Mechanic and the Assistant Mechanic.
Leading safety by example for all employees to follow.
Actively participate in company and operator safety programs and initiatives.
Ensure compliance with the Permit to Work system.
Conduct pre-tour and pre-job safety meetings in compliance with the company requirements (which includes use of the 4-Point check / Energy Wheel and JSA tools), ensuring that crews have participated fully in discussions, have determined the safest method to complete the task and have a full understanding of the work to be performed (especially their individual role).
Member of the Maintenance Team for all emergencies, as described in the Contingency and Emergency Manual.
Report all hazards and positively intervene in all observed unsafe acts.
Participate in emergency drills, including post-drill debriefs.
Attend General Safety Meetings.
Carry out all work activities within the guidelines of Company or Operator Policies or Procedures.
Ensuring he is familiar with any delegated responsibilities as detailed in the Operators Emergency Response Plan.
General Responsibilities and Main Tasks:
Includes, but is not limited to and not in order of priority:
Assisting the Mechanic and Assistant Mechanic as required.
Maintaining cleanliness of all designated machinery spaces and associated mechanical equipment.
Checking and maintaining oil, water and fuel levels of all mechanical equipment within machinery spaces or as designated by Mechanic.
Responsibility for the care and maintenance of Mechanical Department tools.
Stopping and starting of machinery as required by Mechanic or Assistant Mechanic.
Ensuring that day and service fuel oil tank levels are maintained.
Maintaining machinery records via the Daily Engine Room Log Book.
Executing maintenance tasks according to the planned maintenance program.
Reporting all faults and problems immediately to the Mechanic or Assistant Mechanic.
Undertaking all drills and duties as determined by posted Station Bill.
