JOB SUMMARY

The Area IT Lead will report to the ISIT Manager – Operations but will have day-to-day accountability to the Area Operations Director and ultimately the relevant Operating Unit VP. The role is part of the ISIT Operations function and is also expected to work closely with Corporate ISIT Teams on a regular basis.

This position is responsible for managing onshore and offshore technical project implementation and will be working with a wide variety of cross-functional internal and external teams and be accountable to a diverse group of stakeholders. They collaborate closely with the local operations team and other support functions in the area.

The role requires high level technical competency, with the ability to lead and coordinate troubleshooting and problem-solving activities.

 

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

IT Project Management and Support

  •  Ensure adequate and timely communications to all area stakeholders on project and operational information that will impact IT services provided.
  •  Support multiple IT project delivery of varying size and complexity into the area (onshore and offshore). Help remove roadblocks, increase overall team velocity, and speed up milestone deliverables. Participate in or lead the project planning and scheduling of new technology initiatives and the implementation of such initiatives in production.
  •  Document and improve standard operating procedures to reduce risk, improve availability and efficiency.
  •  Work closely with the ISIT Manager and Corporate ISIT to deliver projects into the area.
  •  Support the process development and transition from project to operations to ensure a smooth and successful transition.\
  •  Conduct project implementation debrief to capture lessons learned and understand benefits realized as a result.

 

IT Operations and Support

  •  Implement and execute proactive maintenance, monitoring, and support processes to provide a stable and reliable IT platform in the area where applicable.
  •  Work closely with other business units and stakeholders to address all business and customer needs and to meet or exceed SLA commitments as well as end-user requirements
  •  Point of contact for Issues and escalation management in the area. Support and manage the Installation, management and troubleshooting of computer hardware and software both onshore and offshore.
  •  Ensure proper follow up of incidents, root cause analysis and as well as planning and implementing permanent fixes.
  •  Work in close collaboration with Company’s IT Service Partner on matters relating to daily IT operations and support for both our operations.
  •  Work with various service providers operationally to manage onshore and offshore communications services, mobility services and local support in various countries where applicable.
  •  Ensure infrastructure availability meets committed service levels; minimize the impact of incidents by ensuring appropriate support response times
  •  Ensure the IT Disaster Recovery Planning supports and complements the Business Continuity requirements; regularly plan and execute Disaster Recovery exercises making sure gaps are tracked and addressed in a timely fashion.
  •  Procure required IT goods and services for the area.

 

IT Strategy and Transformation

  •  Support business requirements gathering by engaging and collaborating with area functional leadership and subject matter experts on an ongoing basis.
  •  Support IT services demand and prioritization in conjunction with corporate IT.
  •  Support the execution of the technology roadmap; balance the desired architectural and project delivery commitments against local area operational requirements.
  •  Keep up to date with trends and new technologies that could be applicable to the overall business
  •  Support the implementation of changes into the area by testing for change impact and performing risk assessments prior to change implementation.

 

General

  •  Prepare regular reporting to the ISIT Manager, Area Senior Management and Corporate ISIT detailing the status of activities related to the area.
  •  Work closely with the commercial team to provide input into commercial Tenders for all IT systems and services requirements for offshore drilling rigs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must have strong technical background and experience working with the Microsoft O365 and Azure technology suite.
  • Experience working with outsourced service providers who provide both onshore and offshore resources.
  • Ability to learn and understand all core IT services deployed in the business (onshore/offshore), appreciate how they create value for the business and their criticality.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with very solid interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage senior stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including strengths in meeting objectives through influence, facilitation, and team building
  • Must be able to thrive in a high pressure and extremely fast-paced environment with a “roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty” attitude.
  • Ability to think strategically and to anticipate and plan changes and upgrades for future organizational and business needs. Must be able to deal with ambiguity.

Desired

  • Working knowledge of VSAT systems, 4G, LTE, O3B and satellite communications is an advantage.
  • Excellent and broad knowledge of IT solutions and technologies:
    • software/web development
    • mobile technologies
    • cloud computing
    • analytics and data management
    • networking, connectivity and security
    • SaaS IaaS and PaaS
  • Experience and expertise in ERP systems (finance, supply chain, HR, etc.)
  • Prior experience in the oil and gas drilling environment or relevant experience in large multinational companies running global operations

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems Management, or equivalent experience.
  •  Must have at least 5 years of extensive experience in all aspects of IT operations and management plus general knowledge of software development, and complex systems integration using various technologies.

 

Preferred

  • ITIL working knowledge is extremely beneficial for this role (Foundations Certification a plus).
  • Strong and proven project management skills. PRINCE2, PMP or Agile certification is a plus.
